BOB ALDOUS

Transcending Blackness

A symbolic examination of humanities relationship
with happiness and suffering

The subject mater within the artwork of Bob Aldous is old, very old. It originates before history, before civilization, before art.

The image is paramount, not drawn from experience, but a symbol that informs our consciousness. In Kant this would be the a priori concept, in Plato the platonic form; however we are looking back deeper than this, into the roots of our common humanity and our shared suffering. The image originates in a nothingness that inhabits the soul of our being.

A bright flame illuminates the cave but within the illumination we discover our deepest fears. Coupled with the flame comes the shadow, with the shadow light and with the light transcendent beauty.
